Marc Schluter has been busy in Wareham and beyond

Dec 19, 2012

Marc Schluter has been busy since Wareham Week first heard of his good deeds. Busy from West Virginia to Alaska and Hawaii.

Marc has been dead for nearly 20 years since his Jeep rolled over on Red Brook Road shortly before Christmas in 1992, but his family's Facebook movement has kept his spirit alive.

It all began just a few weeks ago when Marc's brother, Scott Schluter, started a Facebook page to invite all who knew his brother to "pay it forward" and do something nice for someone else this holiday season.

In the week since Wareham Week first reported on the movement, "20 Years Later, a Celebration of Life," Marc has helped a woman in West Virginia change her flat tire, and a woman in Oregon put chains on her tires while she was driving in wintry weather.

Marc volunteered at the International Market Place in Hawaii, where he wrapped gifts and collected donations for homeless children. He donated toys to Stuff-A-Cruiser, Toys for Tots, and other holiday drives.

He bought coffee for a mother in Maine, and for countless people in Wareham who were lucky enough to be behind him in line at various shops.

Marc told an elderly woman that her driveway would be plowed for free this winter.

When WHDH in Boston heard of Marc's story, reporters traveled to Wareham to find the CVS parking lot where Marc left $1,000 on a struggling woman's car.

More than 900 people, and counting, are now following the movement on Facebook.

Want to join the Schluters in paying it forward? Do something for someone else, big or small. Leave a note or tell the recipient of your good deed that Marc Schluter did it. Share your story on Facebook, or message Scott Schluter at scottschluter@gmail.com.
