Maria D. Vieira, 92, worked for Decas family
Maria D. (Duarte) Vieira, 92, of New Bedford formerly of Wareham died Sunday, April 29, at Sacred Heart Home in New Bedford after a long illness. She was the wife of the late John L. Vieira.
Born in Wareham, she was the daughter of the late James & Gertrude Duarte. Mrs. Vieira worked as a domestic for the Decas family for many years. She also worked for the A.D. Makepeace Company and Handy Cranberry Trust.
She is survived by two sons, Deraman Costa and Henry Vieira, both of New Bedford; three daughters, Nazolina Zugszgvic of Revere, Geraldine Vieira and Gertrude Barber both of Wareham; 30 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her sister, the late Anna Duarte.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 3 at the Onset Foursquare Church, 301 Onset Ave., at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be Wednesday at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham from 5 – 8 PM. Interment will be private.
