Marie Balboni, 91

Marie Balboni, 91, of Wareham, died Jan. 28 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. She was the wife of the late Leo P. Balboni.

Born in Wareham, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ethelwyn (Hart) Robbins. Lovingly known as “Goog” to her family and friends, she was a lifelong resident of the town. She was a former waitress at Cathay Temple in Mattapoisett and the Knotty Pine Restaurant in West Wareham. She was also employed as a kindergarten teaching assistant at the Wesley United Methodist Church, and worked at the First National Bank of Wareham. Mrs. Balboni also worked for Old Colony Elder Services, delivering Meals on Wheels, and the Wareham Police Department and Wareham Town Hall.

She was an avid Red Sox fan, enjoyed trips to the casinos, and was always ready to help those in need.

She is survived by her three daughters, Lynne F. Crocker of Onset, Janet Bumpus and her husband Eben of Rochester, and Stephanie Canedy of Wareham; her brother, Judson Gayton of Bay Village, OH; 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Lorna Lundgren; her brothers, Howard Robbins, Stephen Robbins, and Gardner Gayton; her son-in-law, Dennis Canedy; her grandson, James St. Germaine, II, and her great-grandson, Jacob Vermilya.

A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, Feb. 1, at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 462 Main Street, Wareham, at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham. Visiting hours will be Thursday at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham, from 5 to 8 p.m.
