WAREHAM – Marie P. Canfield, 88, of Dartmouth, formerly of Newton passed away after a lengthy illness on January 30, 2023 at the home of her nephew and niece in Wareham.

Marie was born in Boston and was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Evelyn C. Canfield. Marie was predeceased by her brother Thomas Canfield, her sister Patricia Canfield, and her sister Evelyn C. Lambert.

Marie had lived in Newton for many years before moving to Dartmouth where she was a resident of The Cottages at Dartmouth Village. Marie attained a Bachelor’s in Biology/Chemistry from Emmanuel College and a Master’s in Library Science from Simmons College.

Though Marie never married, she did enjoy taking her young nieces and nephew to see plays, musicals, trips to museums, and visits to historical places of interest all around the greater Boston area. In addition to helping to financially support her parents in their later years, Marie also became the primary care giver when her mother started to experience serious health issues. Marie had worked for many years in a variety of positions with The
Shipley Company in Marlborough. Her position at the time of her retirement was as a Technical Information Specialist.

Both family and friends knew Marie for her quick wit, her loyalty, and her generosity.

Marie is survived by her nephew John T. Lambert and his wife Rosemary of Wareham, her niece Jeanne Derksen and her husband Tom of Noblesville, IN, and her niece Patricia Lambert and her boyfriend William of Westborough. Marie was also a great-aunt to 7 nieces and nephews as well as a great-great aunt to 3 nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at St. Mary’s Church, Onset at 10 AM. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, W. Roxbury. Visiting hours have been omitted.
