The Boys and Girls Club will be hosting the 11th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Community Breakfast on Jan. 20 at 9 a.m.

Every year at the breakfast, students chosen by staff at each of the schools in Wareham, along with students chosen at Upper Cape Tech, Bishop Stang High School, the Gleason Family YMCA, and the Boys and Girls Club, will be recognized for embodying the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Each student will be introduced by a principal or other community leader after a hot breakfast prepared by Kev’s Kitchen.

This year, the keynote speaker will be Darcy Fernandes, a Wareham native and the superintendent of schools for the Athol-Royalston Regional School District. Fernandes was the 2019 recipient of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents’ President’s Award for her work in creating more equitable classrooms for students.

Advance tickets to the breakfast cost $15 for adults and $5 for seniors and children, and are available by calling the Boys and Girls Club of Wareham at 774-678-4243, or stop by the club, located at the old Hammond School at 13 Highland Ave., from 2 to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Limited tickets will be available at the door.

Sponsorship opportunities are also available, with sponsoring businesses being recognized with an ad in a commemorative program booklet. Call 508-273-3158 for information.
