Mary Ann (Gomes) Spinola, 75, of Onset, died Sat., July 20, at Tobey Hospital, unexpectedly. She was the wife of Anthony J. “Cushy” Spinola.

Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Augusto & Julia (Monteiro) Gomes. Mrs. Spinola worked for Tobey Hospital as a phlebotomist for 36 years. She retired in 1998.

Mrs. Spinola was a member of the V.F.W. Women’s Auxiliary in Onset. Mary was kind, attentive and compassionate. She had a gift that made everyone she met feel special.

She is survived by her son, Glenn W. Spinola of Onset; two daughters, Lynn A. Spinola of E. Wareham and Lisa M. Rego and her husband Paul of New Bedford; her stepson, Anthony “Tony” Spinola of Onset; her siblings, Donald Gomes and his wife Carol, Joseph Gomes and his wife Josephine, Paul Gomes and his wife Nadine, Raymond Gomes and his wife Julie and August Gomes, Jr. all of New Bedford; her grandchildren, Shikara, Erika, Mychal, Cherese, Marquise, Marcus, Mariah and Dylan and six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She predeceased by her son,Mark A. Spinola; her siblings, Arthur Monteiro, David Gomes, Catherine Texiera, Louise Ramos, and Anthony Gomes.

Her funeral will be from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 9:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, Onset Ave., Onset at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham. Visiting hours will be Tues. from 5:00 to 9:00 PM.
