Mary C. Conroy, 77
Mary C. (Greene) Conroy, 77, of Onset, formerly of Randolph and Dorchester, passed away on July 6 after a long series of illnesses.
She was the loving wife of 55 years to her husband, Peter B. Conroy, beloved mother of Maryanne Conroy-Miller and her husband Kent Miller of Worcester, Kathleen Conroy of Avon, and Peter M. Conroy and his wife Aimee of Lakeville. She was the cherished Nana of Peter Joseph (PJ) and Daniel Conroy.
She was the daughter of the late Martin and Mary (Guy) Greene. She is the sister of William Greene of Dorchester, Anne D'Arcy of Pembroke, and the late John and Joseph Greene.
She is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mary was born and raised in Dorchester, and was a graduate of the Catherine Laboure School of Nursing. She worked at St. Margaret's Hospital for Women in Dorchester for 40 years in a variety of nursing supervisory positions. She was instrumental in implementing a "natural family planning" program at the hospital, as well as outreach programs in Virginia and the Carolinas.
She helped plan, wrote the curricula for, and taught with others the first sex education program developed for the schools of the Archdiocese of Boston.
For many years she was the Director of St. Mary's Home for Women and Children in Dorchester.
Mary was an avid gardener at home in Bay Pointe Village in Onset, and an active member of the Wareham Garden Club. Services were held on July 11.
