Mary Lopes-Miranda, “Bubs,” age 85, formerly of Onset and Boston, MA, went home late evening August 9 from her home in Newark, DE, where she had resided for the last 5 years with her daughter, Valetta “Apple," son-in-law, Bruce, and granddaughter, Kristina.

Mary was born on October 28, 1925 in Onset to Louis and Dominga Lopes.  Mary was the youngest of seven children born to the couple after they emigrated from the islands of Cape Verde in early 1900.

On September 28, 1948, she married Leland James Miranda. They had 2 children. Mary worked all of her life as a homemaker and mother. She loved to garden, shop and drink tea (cha) with family and friends. She was “the” most encouraging and loving person.

She is survived by her 2 children, Leland James Miranda, Jr. and Valetta Miranda-Evans; a sister, Doris Dias of Wareham; 8 grandchildren, Darcel Murray, Kristina Evans, Adam Evans, Leland Calhoun, Arron Pridgeon, Xavier Miranda, Kaylin Miranda; 5 great-grandchildren, Dominga Murray, Abdurrahman AbdulMumit, Rashdeedah AbdulMumit, Arron Pridgeon Jr., and Victoria Viverios.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband and her brothers and sisters, Nellie Fernandez, Minnie Barros, Arthur Lopes, George Lopes, and John Lopes.

Her funeral was held August 15 from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial followed at St. Patrick’s Church. Burial followed in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
