In Maryland, Tigers cheerleaders get best scores of season

Feb 28, 2023

The Wareham Tigers Pride and Spirit cheerleading teams competed in the Reach the Beach Rec Showdown in Ocean City, Maryland on Saturday, Feb. 25 and Sunday, Feb. 26.

The Pride team, for more experienced girls up to age 18, came in third place over the weekend. The Spirit team, for less experienced girls ages 12 and under, came in fifth place.

They achieved their highest scores of the season despite player injuries forcing last-minute changes to their routines.

“Both of our teams were so fun and amazing to watch this weekend,” said Head Coach Sonja Delucia. “These athletes worked really hard the prior weeks in order to put out two solid performances.”

The girls practiced three hours a day for two or three days each week to master their routines.

“Us as coaches love to pull out the best in each athlete and are always pushing them to be their best,” Delucia said. “Bringing home third place for Pride and fifth place for Spirit was very exciting for us.”

The Pride team will go on to compete in the Winners Choice Championships at the Mohegan Sun Earth Expo and Convention Center in Uncasville, Connecticut on Saturday, March 11.

The Pride, Spirit and Empower teams will compete in the Cheersport Boston Classic on Saturday, March 25.
