Michael Luiz Souza, 70

WAREHAM – Michael Luiz Souza, 70, of Wareham, passed away on August 12, 2023, at Falmouth Hospital. He was the husband of Chan (Pongsamarn) Souza for 49 wonderful years and the son of the late Manual Luiz and Hazel Elizabeth (Hudson) Souza.

He was born in Acushnet and attended school while he grew up in New Bedford before joining the Coast Guard. Mr. Souza served in the United States Coast Guard from 1971 to 1979. He was stationed in Alaska, Thailand, Florida and Otis, MA to name a few.

He worked as an IT analyst for the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Brockton and other sites for many years assisting fellow veterans before retiring and was a man who was charitable with his time. He lived in Wareham for many years of his life with his family and those he welcomed into his home.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, the Fr. Francis E. Grogan Council 15280 Knights of Columbus, and Wat Nawamintararachutis. He also was a singer for Native American Assembly first creating “Sunhawk Singers” and later joining “Four Winds Singers.” Some hobbies included being an overall fantasy and LotR enthusiast, which you can see his name in the extended versions’ credits, fishing in his local area, coaching BMX in his younger years, playing the drums and other instruments, collecting hot wheels, and teaching those to be true to themselves no matter how geeky or nerdy.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Chan (Pongsamarn) Souza; 2 daughters, Dawn Souza of Wareham and Diana Souza of Hyannis; granddaughter, Samantha Souza; younger brother, Glenn Souza of New Bedford; sister Kathleen Souza of New Bedford; aunt Ezara Souza Pires of Fairhaven; and uncle Henry Souza of Dartmouth. He was the brother of the late Brian Souza.

Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – WAREHAM, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham.

His funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – WAREHAM, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham.

Burial will be private at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
