A Middleborough woman is accused of resisting arrest with a young child in her car following a traffic stop on Saturday, Sept. 1.

At about 6:45 p.m., Officer Nate Aronson was running radar on Cranberry Highway near Red Brook Road. He stopped a car for speeding and issued  Wanda Apontefrias, 28, a citation. After the citation was issued, she stepped out of the car and became argumentative with Aronson, police said. She was told several times to return to her car. However, she refused to co-operate and her belligerence escalated to the point where she was threatened with arrest, police said. After several warnings, Apontefrias was arrested.

Police said she resisted violently and Officer Aronson ended up on the ground, where Apontefrias was subdued with assistance from Officer Blaise Lalli. There was a small child in the car that was cared for and brought to the police station by Special Officer Madison Burrell until the Department of Children and Families arrived to assist. Apontefrias was charged with, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest, and speeding.
