Minot Forest receives Bonus Bucks

Minot Forest Elementary School students can look forward to a field trip or an enrichment program speaker this coming fall, thanks to a check from the A+ Bonus Bucks Program at Stop and Shop.

“We sign up in September, and it runs from October through May,” said Joan Seamans, principal at Minot Forest. “Families … go online, they register their Stop and Shop card, and then they shop for the year. A portion of the sales that come from all these families come to in me in a check at the end of the year.”

Seamans said it was the fourth year the school has been enrolled in the program. This year’s check was for $842.75, which Seamans said was the typical draw. The funds will be used for educational purposes not covered by the typical school budget.

“We use it for education needs, so it could be for a field trip, it could be buying a projector,” Seamans. “We can use the money for things we might normally not be able to do.”

Seamans said she had a few ideas for what she will use the money for this coming school year.

“We want to try to have a presenter come in for … bullying,” Seamans said. “We had one a couple years ago, but it’s time to renew that, especially since we have new students now.”

Seamans said this year’s extra educational events will focus on building the school’s culture. She is looking for “positive presenters that might be able to support that.”

“We are focusing on discipline this year, and accelerated learning,” Seamans said. “Anything that would go along with these themes would come in.”
