Multicultural fest celebrates diversity, togetherness in Wareham
Wareham’s diverse culture was on display Saturday evening at Another Star, a ‘multicultural extravaganza’ held at Wareham High School.
The event saw several performances from the likes of contemporary act Positivity (featuring Wareham’s own Buddy Monteiro), Madeiran song-and-dance troupe Grupo Folclórico Madeirense do Clube SS Sacramento out of New Bedford, the Haley School Irish Step Dancers out of the South Shore and Greater Boston, Brockton-based band Pilon led by Tchico Evora, as well as performances by up-and-comers Aisling Peartree, Diamani Ferreira, and Mel Andrade.
“The whole night has been a good night,” said event co-organizer Kathy Andrews, who introduced Positivity before their performance.
The event itself was organized in correlation with Wareham’s Summer of Celebration, which commemorates the 275th anniversary of the town's incorporation.
In those 275 years, Wareham’s seen an influx of different ethnicities and cultures, including those from Cape Verde, Portugal, and Ireland, each of which were represented and celebrated at Saturday’s event.
Dr. Dana Mohler-Faria, the president of Bridgewater State University who is Cape Verdean, was also on hand and addressed the crowd of more than 100 who were in attendance.
