New Builders Club officers, members installed
Several new officers were officially sworn in to the middle school’s burgeoning Builders Club Thursday afternoon.
The club of 29 students presented the new officers, as well as a few new members, with booklets and badges. Lisa Simmons and three Kiwanis Club representatives from the high school were in attendance to help swear the officers and members in.
Both the Builders Club and the Kiwanis Club are service clubs in which students may take part during their middle school and high school years, respectively.
Governor Elect of the New England and Bermuda District Bill Jenkins also presented the group with a new gavel, complete with a shiny plaque that recorded the Wareham group’s official date of creation in December 2014.
Group advisor Janice Barton said any students are free to join the club, but the officers tended to be the more seasoned club members, who began in the fall, “with some guidance from me.”
“We have been learning how to run meetings, write up agendas,” Barton said. “The general process is for them to take more ownership, as time goes on. They really are probably about 60-40 right now.”
Barton also handed out knitted caps to the members, with the Kiwanis Club badge on them.
The new officers are as follows:
- Danielle Ansell – President
- Alexander Burdick – Vice President
- Johanna McMahon – Vice President
- Lily Odabashian – Treasurer
- Shane Thibeault – Secretary
- O’sheanna Hall – Chair, Board of Directors
- Steffen Mendes – Director
- Alyssa Collazo – Sgt. at Arms
- Austin Tripp – Sgt. at Arms
