New Cape Cod Coffee location offers cruelty-free cuppas

Cape Cod Coffee CEO Jan Aggerbeck wanted to bring something different to Wareham.

That’s why he built a new Cape Cod Coffee location at Wareham Crossing, which had its grand opening on Wednesday, March 15.

“So far everybody's been very supportive,” said Aggerbeck, adding that the coffee shop was “packed” with customers during its first weekend in business.

Cape Cod Coffee, which also has two locations in Mashpee, offers a variety of roasts and flavors, including blueberry and mocha java.

“We try to buy the best quality beans from the right people, that are treated the right way, throughout the whole process,” he said.

According to Aggerbeck, Cape Cod Coffee beans are Rainforest Alliance and Fair Trade Certified.

“No child slave labor or deforestation is being done,” he said.

The pancakes, waffles, omelets, flatbreads and other dishes on Cape Cod Coffee’s menu are meant to be paired with specific roasts — though Aggerbeck is quick to point out that the coffee is great on its own.

He compared the coffee pairings to wine pairings, with each roast highlighting the flavors of each meal.

“Anything sweet tends to lend itself better to a dark roast,” he said, “while any kind of eggs or vegetables usually go better with a light roast.”

Aggerback plans to host events such as concerts and wine tastings at Cape Cod Coffee starting in April.
