New uses considered for Merchants Way Train Depot

The Wareham Redevelopment Authority is considering the potential of the old train station on Merchant’s Way. The station, which has sat unused for decades, could soon become a destination for residents and visitors to Wareham.

The Authority is considering a number of possible uses for the station. It could be a live music venue, a spot for food trucks to park, or a place for people to bring takeout from area restaurants and eat with a view of the Wareham River.

Changes to the station could include the addition of tables and chairs, roll-down doors to enclose the open area, and a speaker system.

Town Planner Ken Buckland suggested that people could “take out food from one of the restaurants and go sit down and enjoy the ambiance of the waterfront.”
