New website will invite residents to submit school-related questions
When the public has school-related questions, administrators say they will have answers.
Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Shaver-Hood at Wednesday’s School Committee meeting announced a new website will be launched, likely next month, where the public may submit questions.
“We will then provide them with the facts,” said Shaver-Hood.
School Committee members said the hope is that the public will feel free to engage officials any time, instead of waiting for the public participation portion of their meetings.
“Hopefully, that will cut down on some of the frustration of not getting answers,” said Chair Judy Caporiccio.
Shaver-Hood said the website is still being developed. When it’s ready to go live an official announcement will be made directing people to the web address.
Shaver-Hood made the announcement during a discussion of the committee’s public participation policy, which was approved with some minor changes, including its name.
Caporiccio said it will now be known as public comment. She said the policy review subcommittee looked to the Board of the Selectmen in making the decision. She said residents at those meetings are allowed to comment, but shouldn’t expect any action until the board has time to consider their remarks.
“Public comment is a more accurate phrase,” said Caporiccio. “It describes what it actually is.”
Committee members unanimously approved the change.
