Norma (Penney) Keyes, 82
Norma (Penney) Keyes, 82, beloved wife for 63 years of Dana C. Keyes, Sr. died peacefully on January 2 surrounded by her devoted family.
Norma was born April 30, 1929 in Dorchester, MA, the daughter of Goldie (Stout) and Reuben Penney. Work brought her father, a ship's captain, to Marion, MA, where Norma attended school, graduating from Tabor Academy in 1947.
On June 1, 1948, Norma married her high school sweetheart, Dana C. Keyes, of Wareham. The couple settled in Wareham where they raised their four children, Dana, Jr., Penney, Holley and Wendey.
With her father’s passion for the sea, Norma loved sailing with her husband aboard their sailboat, the Venturer. They cherished their trips to Cuttyhunk Island with family and friends.
Norma enjoyed knitting and sewing and was an avid gardener. She was a gifted artist and examples of her work can be seen locally and proudly displayed in the homes of her loved ones.
Norma was active in the Wareham Garden Club and a member of the Tobey Hospital Guild, having volunteered in the gift shop for several years.
In addition to her husband, Norma leaves her children, Dana, Jr. and Teri of Falmouth, Penney Keyes of Holliston, Holley and Tom Gardiner of Boston and Wendey and Mark Collins of Rochester, MA. “Tutu” will be missed terribly by her grandchildren, Lisen Keyes, Kelley Mullaney, Caitlin Bendersky, Leigh Ann Killian, Rachael Finkelstein, Mara Finkelstein, Ashley Collins, and Dana Andrew Collins, and her great-grandchildren Fiona and Shea Mullaney.
Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 7at St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church, 124 Front St., Marion.
Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., (Rte.28), Wareham.
