Onset adds summer flare at annual Illumination Night

Jul 30, 2017

Thousands of red flares, some sparklers, light-up toys and fire dancers sparkled across Onset Beach Saturday night at the annual Illumination Night.

Illumination Night, one of the Onset Bay Association's many events of the summer, drew thousands of people to Onset to celebrate summer. The evening included a music parade featuring the Second Line Social Aid Pleasure Society Brass Band and a fire dancing performance by Circus Dynamics.

The main event came at 9 p.m., when the Onset Fire horn sounded and the flares were lit from Burgess Point to Shell Point.

Illumination Night has been an Onset tradition for over 100 years and brings many Wareham residents and visitors from out of town. The event was paid for in part by a Festivals Grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
