Onset Bay Association gears up for 2012
The Onset Bay Association is gearing up for another packed season of family-friendly events -- from the annual Onset-Wareham Fireworks display to the Blues Festival and Christmas in the Parks -- and working to attract more businesses to the village.
Bringing businesses to downtown Onset is "something we really need to work on this year," OBA president Eleanor Martin told the community members who packed Salerno's Function Hall for the association's annual meeting earlier this month.
And Jamie Souza of Eagle Property Management announced good news on that front.
One village vacancy -- 197 Onset Ave., across from the Town Pier -- will likely soon be filled with popular down-Cape restaurant Quahog Republic.
The Onset Bay Association voted to keep the same officers and board members for 2012.
In addition to the OBA's steadfast annual events, such as the Onset Summer of Love Music Series, Illumination Night, and Cape Verdean Festival, the association will welcome back the Fender Bender, a hot rod, bike, and wrestling show this year.
There's also a big milestone ahead. The Onset Blues Festival will celebrate its 20th year in August.
"And it's going to be a big one," volunteer Winna Dean told the crowd.
The Junior Onset Bay Association (J.O.B.A), formed last year by young OBA members who participate in service projects and help with events, will continue its work in 2012.
J.O.B.A. garnered a standing ovation for its work, which included hosting events for pre-teens and teenagers and entering a scarecrow into the Bourne Scarecrow Festival.
The Onset Bay Association is driven by members and volunteers. For more information about participating, call 508-295-7072 or visit http://onsetvillage.org.p8.hostingprod.com.
