A Saturday event at the Dudley L. Brown VFW in Onset will feature raffles, music by DJ Tim Fernandes, food sold by Kevin Fernandes -- and an opportunity to help a grandmother raise three small, motherless grandchildren.

Billed as an event for "Brandi's Kids," the March 22 party will benefit the children of Brandi Cardoza, who died suddenly last August, 11 days after giving birth to her youngest child.

Cardoza's children, ages 9 ,6 and 5 months are now being cared for by Brandi's mother, Faye Cardoza, who recently obtained legal guardianship of the children.

The event organizers point out that 64-year-old Faye now has to pay for after-school and daycare expenses -- and needs to find a home larger than her current two-bedroom mobile home.

Saturday's event will run from 8 p.m. to midnight. Ticket donations are $10. To purchase tickets in advance, call the Onset VFW at (774) 678-0479.
