Onset, Wareham firefighters battle brush blaze
Apr 20, 2016
Onset and Wareham firefighters extinguished a brush fire deep in the woods near Aunt Hannah’s Lane off of Onset Avenue Wednesday afternoon.
According to Onset Deputy Chief William Ellis, 15 Onset firefighters responded to the blaze and a dozen Wareham firefighters were on the scene.
The fire was reported about 4 p.m. At the fire’s height, Ellis said a half acre of land was burning. It’s unknown what sparked the fire at this time, Ellis said.
Ellis noted that there is an increased risk of brush fires this time of year.
“Everything is still brown, nothing has greened up yet,” Ellis said.
