Osprey nest gets an upgrade

Mar 21, 2021

The Buzzards Bay Coalition’s Onset Bay Center and the Department of Natural Resources teamed up to upgrade an osprey nest pole at Burgess Point this week.

The pole has supported an osprey’s nest for more than 30 years, but last year developed a crack.

With the support of DAD Line Construction, the John Decas Charitable Trust, and the Eversource Community Foundation, the pole was made safe again.

“Ospreys are known for their strong instinct to return to their previous nests,” wrote the center. “We hope this upgrade helps them have a successful season!”

The Department of Natural Resources described the project as “some great teamwork.”

“Hopefully we will have another 30 years of successful nesting, the tenants should be returning from their winter journey any day now!” the department wrote.
