Patricia Cardoza, 77
Patricia A. (Filkins) Cardoza, 77, lifetime Wareham resident, died peacefully at home on Sept. 10 with her loving family gathered by her side. She was the daughter of the late Stanford and Emma J. (Lopes) Filkins. She was the former wife of the late Peter J. Cardoza, Sr.
She is survived by her children; Cheryl Lynn Babbitt of North Attleboro, Susan Cardoza Cunha and Kelly Cardoza Williams of Stoughton, Peter J. Cardoza, Jr. of Wareham, Randy M. Cardoza of New Bedford, and Derek M. Cardoza of Marstons Mills.
Over the decades her family continued to grow with the addition of 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and five step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brothers, Dennis and Ashley Filkins, and sisters Gloria Burgess, Kim Fontes and Terry Jo Filkins of Wareham, as well as Sheila Tougas of Attleboro. She was predeceased by brothers Stanley, Leroy, Walter, and Vernon Filkins. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She had been employed by Zayre’s Stores in Hyannis, and as many locals will recall, J.J. Newberry’s in Wareham and Design Mark, also of Wareham. In her retirement she worked for Wareham Public Schools.
A woman of strong faith, she loved crafts of all sorts; from gardening and yardwork to carpentry. She was an amazing seamstress, her lifelong passion. Too many to name will remember her blueberry pies!
Known as Mom, Nana, Pat and Patty, she will be greatly missed by those who loved her. She will be remembered for her independent and industrious spirit.
In respect to her wishes, no formal services will be observed. In lieu of flowers, consider a contribution in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
