Paul James Dever, 86

Paul James Dever, 86, of Wareham, died October 22, 2020, at home. He was the beloved husband of 57 years of Jane E. (Dervan) Dever and the son of the late Paul and Delia (Cawley) Devir.

He was born in Boston and lived in Westborough, MA, before moving to Wareham.  He graduated from Northeastern University.

Mr. Dever served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 and was honorably discharged with a Good Conduct Medal after completing his term in the reserves.

He was an Executive Vice President at Home National Bank in Milford for several years before retiring.

Mr. Dever was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and the Society of St. Joseph.  He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed golfing, boating, classical music, and walking by the shore and along the Cape Cod Canal. He was an avid reader of history books.

He was a man of great faith; who possessed a quiet, gentle strength. His family was his biggest source of happiness. A perfect day was a day at the beach surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He taught those around him of patience, compassion, and kindness.

Survivors include his wife, Jane E. (Dervan) Dever; 2 sons, John F. Dever of Bath, ME and Edward P. Dever of Corvallis, OR; 4 daughters, Patricia A. Dever of Brighton, England, Sheila Dever-David of Sharon, Christina E. Dever of Charlottesville, VA and Laura J. Rasher of Brockton; a brother, William Dever of Schenectady, NY; 10 grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brother Robert Dever of Dorchester, MA.

Visiting hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26, 2020 at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. (Appropriate COVID-19 protocol will be observed including the use of face masks, social distancing and wait times in line due to temporary limited capacity).

His funeral is being held privately.
