Update: Pedestrian struck on Cranberry Highway
A car struck two pedestrians, killing a 57-year-old woman, on Cranberry Highway around 8:40 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1.
The passenger of the vehicle, a Volvo, said they immediately pulled over and called 911 to report the incident that occurred at 2796 Cranberry Highway. According to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz, both victims were transported to the hospital where the 57-year-old was pronounced dead.
According to the man who survived the accident, the two were walking on the outer line of the road due to snow covering the sidewalks. A black truck’s mirror first struck the man, who then moved closer to the sidewalk.
The Volvo then struck the woman. The survivor said he was unsure if the car also struck him or if he was knocked over by the woman.
Law enforcement on scene interviewed the driver and passenger of the Volvo. According to the interview, the vehicle was driving south on Cranberry Highway past a curve when the pedestrians came into view.
The occupants of the Volvo said there was oncoming traffic, and they could not avoid hitting the pedestrians. The driver stated they were driving the speed limit and were not distracted at the moment of impact.
The Massachusetts State Police is investigating the fatal crash, and efforts to notify next of kin are ongoing.
