Pets celebrate the 4th in style

Jul 4, 2012

A miniature horse, a pig named Sizzle, one cat, and lots of dogs turned out for the July 4th Wareham Pet Parade.

Accompanied by their owners, most were competing for prizes in one of four categories: Most Patriotic, Most Wareham, Most Unusual, Looks Most Like Owner. Some were just along for the fun, joining the procession down Merchants Way without registering.

The four-legged marchers were led by Eric Pepin of West Wareham and Henry, his 3-year-old English mastiff. In honor of Henry’s birthday falling on July 4, the parade kicked off with all singing “Happy Birthday” to Henry.

The parade was sponsored by Wareham Week as part of the Wareham Village Association’s Swan Festival. Swans – which don’t make very good pets – did not participate.
