Police: alcohol factor in pedestrian versus car crash
Police said a 42-year-old Wareham man had been drinking before he was struck by a car at the corner of Cranberry Highway and Main Avenue Wednesday evening.
The man, David Dibenedetto, was knocked unconscious while walking near Cranberry Highway’s eastbound lane. According to police, he was seriously injured while crossing the road and taken to Rhode Island Hospital. Dibenedetto is currently in stable condition.
Police said Dibenedetto had "showed signs of having consumed alcohol" and was wearing dark clothes at the time of the crash.
Witnesses said the driver was traveling within marked lanes and not speeding. The vehicle was operated by 29-year-old Bourne resident Monica Pepe, who was not cited for any motor vehicle infractions at this time.
Wareham Police, Onset Fire and Wareham EMS responded to the scene of the crash, which happened next to the crossing signal. The crash was reported at 7:42 p.m.
