Police have identified the Wareham man who was shot on Nicholas Drive Thursday night as 33-year-old Christopher Turner, who has been arrested twice in the past five years.

Turner was shot twice around 8 p.m. in the area of 30-35 Nicholas Drive and taken to Tobey Hospital by car before first responders arrived.

According to police, Turner, who remains in stable condition at Rhode Island Hospital, did not answer officer’s questions regarding the incident. According to Wareham Week archives, Turner was arrested in 2011 charged with marijuana possession. In 2013, Turner was found not guilty of three charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (knife) and one charge of aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

The charges stemmed from a daylight knife fight on Onset Avenue in 2012.

The brawl with Trayce Crew, also of Onset, resulted in injuries to both men, Crew being airlifted to a Boston hospital, and police filing attempted murder charges against Turner.

The attempted murder charges were dropped by the Plymouth County District attorney’s office and Turner successfully argued that his actions were in self-defense.

Turner sustained a wound to his head that required nine staples according to court reports. Turner also had wounds on his hands that were consistent with his claim that he acted in self-defense.

According to reports, when police arrived the men were approximately 100 feet away from each other, and both needed medical attention.

Crew was charged with assault and battery, and his case was continued without a finding.

The police found $1,240 in cash on Turner, and approximately three ounces of marijuana in his home during a subsequent search, according to the police report.
