Police issue violations to motel owners

Wareham Police, along with local and state inspectional services personnel, conducted compliance checks at four Wareham motels on Thursday, February 17, and found numerous violations at each establishment.

The motels included the Rosewood Motel at 3115 Cranberry Highway, Star Light Motel at 3102 Cranberry Highway, Travelers Choice Motel at 3082 Cranberry Highway, and the Silver Lake Motel at 3026 Cranberry Highway.

The violations found were classified by inspectors as ones that did not "endanger life and safety," according to a Wareham Police press release. Property owners were given 30 days to take corrective action before inspectors return for another check.

Town inspectors shut down a Cranberry Highway motel last month for violations. The White Pines Motel, the scene of a double-stabbing weeks before, was cited for having an expired operating license and for being delinquent in tax payments to the town.

Thursday's inspections took place following a drug sweep at the high school, during which police found 11 students to be in possession of one ounce or less of marijuana. The students were given a citation that carries a $100 fine and were suspended from school.
