The Wareham Police Department had a self-defense class for women age 15 and up in town.
The event was held Saturday, April 26 and over 60 women came out to learn how to defend themselves.
The class was taught by South Coast Self Defense Gym Owner David Eaton and officers in attendance gave attendees information on domestic violence awareness.
The class began as a conversation between Eaton and Wareham Police Sergeant Steve Soqui and the two were able to turn the idea into a reality with the help of several other Wareham police officers.
As part of the event, Wareham Police has created an “Understanding Domestic Violence” handout for citizens.
