Polls open at 8 a.m. for April 5 town election
Voters will hit the polls April 5 to elect nominees in a hot race for several open seats this year.
Elections will be held from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. at the six precincts around town. The town's six voting precincts are located as follows: Precinct 1 at Town Hall; Precinct 2 at Ethel E. Hammond School in Onset; Precinct 3 and Precinct 6 at Minot Forest School in East Wareham; and Precinct 4 and Precinct 5 at Decas School in West Wareham.
There are two seats available on the Board of Selectmen, and one seat open in each of the following offices: Town Clerk, Town Moderator, Town Assessor, School Committee, and Board of Sewer Commissioners. All of the openings are positions with three-year terms.

Board of Selectmen
Patrick Tropeano has served on the Board for three years, and believes he has the experience necessary for another term. With camaraderie he sees among current members of the board and a desire to stabilize Wareham's financial security, Tropeano also has personal history tied to his running for office. John Ferranti said he's well known around town and will provide good direction, if elected into the Board of Selectmen. A member of the Wareham Veterans Council and a business owner, Ferranti hopes to improve road conditions around Wareham, if elected. Anthony Scarsciotti is ready to take a more active role in government. Having served as a Town Meeting teller for ten years and on the Planning Board for eight years, Scarsciotti has experience in Town Hall and many ideas on how to improve Wareham. Town Clerk
Mary Ann Silva has been the Town Clerk for the past 18 years and this is her last run for office. Though she values the autonomy of the job, she does not underestimate the work. Read more about her experience in the position and her background here.

School Committee
Incumbent Rhonda Veugen states on her website that she “can bring new ideas and a collaborative spirit to help solve some of the most pressing issues facing our schools.” Veugen spoke more about her views and plans for office during her interview which can be read here.
Her challenger, Mary Morgan, has worked more than 18 years in the Wareham schools, many of them with special education students. Morgan left her Wareham job and took a position with Rockland public schools in order to allow her to run for School Committee without any conflict of interest. Board of Sewer Commissioners
Marilyn Jordan, the incumbent for a seat on the Board of Sewer Commissioners, wants to see out the projects she helped begin. Read more about what Jordan would like to see happen in the next three years here.

Town Moderator
Elected in 2010, Claire Smith will run uncontested for the position in this election.
Board of Assessors
The seat is occupied by Roxanne Barboza, who is running uncontested for this position.
