Possible shark sighting at Swifts Neck, officials advise: 'Swim at your own risk'
Town officials are advising swimmers at beaches on the Wareham River to "swim at your own risk," after the Harbormaster Department received reports of a shark in the area of Swifts Neck beach at approximately 9 a.m. on Saturday.
"As a precautionary measure, we are notifying beach-goers of the situation and the current status is 'swim at your own risk,'" Harbormaster Garry Buckminster said, noting that the sighting was by a "credible source."
The Harbormaster Department, Wareham Police, and the State Police Air Wing were dispatched to the area. All reported no further sightings.
"We will be continuing with marine patrols within the sighting area for the remainder of the day," Buckminster said.
