Prices of some liquor permits set to increase

Dec 11, 2013

The Board of Selectmen voted to increase some of the fees for liquor permits at its Tuesday, Dec. 10 meeting.

After examining what other communities in Plymouth County charge for licenses, Selectman Judy Whiteside said, "I think in, in some cases, we probably should increase our fees."

Selectman Patrick Tropeano voted against the increases, saying the increases would ultimately be passed on to customers.

"When we add money to licenses, it's like adding a tax," he said. "This is not the best time as far as I'm concerned."

The price of "all-alcoholic" licenses will increase from $1,200 to $1,500, a common victualler wines and malt license will increase from $1,250 to 1,500 and a package goods wine and malt license will increase from $1,100 to 1,500.

The increases will go into effect in January 2014.
