Nearly 350 runners participated in the Gleason Family YMCA 5K Road Race this Saturday, winding through Onset on a 3.1-mile course that began at Union Avenue near Marc Anthony's restaurant and ended on Onset Pier.

Runners ranged from the ages of nine to 73 and came from as far away as Seattle, WA.

Brian Cohen, 20, of Easton finished first, completing the course in 16:59.  He was followed by Jeff Reed, 31, of New Bedford, who finished with a time of 17:24, and Daniel Croteau, 20, of Acushnet, with a time of 18:02.  Anne Curi Preiseg, 42, of Falmouth, followed Croteau and was the top female finisher with a time of 18:53.  Onset's Brian Foster, 24, was the top local finisher.  He came in 13th with a time of 20:10.

The 8th Annual event raises money for the Y's Annual Support Campaign to provide financial aid for those who cannot afford membership dues and program and camp fees on their own.  Over 1,000 members at the Gleason Family YMCA are receiving financial support.

"This was our largest race so far, it was great," said YMCA Development Director Jo-Ann Watson.  "It went really well, we've gotten a lot of positive feedback from runners, and people who have participated every year."
