Rare/collectible book auctions resume at the Wareham Free Library
You don't need to go to Foxwoods to place a bet on something special!
The Friends of the Wareham Free Library have once again begun its monthly silent auctions of rare and collectible books starting this month. Proceeds go to the Friends.
Donated by local residents, these books are often first editions with value because of their age, rarity, or illustrations.
To bid on a book, please visit the library and print your name on the book's bidding sheet. The books are located in a case near the Reference Desk in the Main Library at 59 Marion Road.
That's it!
The auction runs for one month and new collections of books will be auctioned in August and September.
There are three books being auctioned in July.
The first is The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain.
This special edition was printed in 1910, the year of the author's death and issued as a holiday book with sixteen illustrations. The value is listed at $40.
The second book at auction is the Favorite Poems of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow from 1947 with drawings by Edward A. Wilson.
Selections in this edition include some popular favorites such as "The Ride of Paul Revere," and "The Village Blacksmith." Book dealers list the value of this book at $24.
The third book is Norman Rockwell: A Definitive Catalog, and it is the most valuable of the three books on auction.
Published in 1986, this two-volume set in its original slipcase with gilt titles contains 96 color plates and a forward by the artist.
Amazon is currently listing this set for $225 but bidding starts way below that in this silent auction.
Take a chance and place a bid on one of these beautiful books while supporting the work of the Friends of the Wareham Free Library!
