Raymond Maxim, 84
It is with deepest sorrow and profound sadness that I announce the passing of an adored and beloved father, husband, grandfather and brother, Raymond Maxim on June 15, 2024. This is heartbreaking for the entire family as he was a pillar of strength, kindness, and love that touched the lives of all who knew him.
Ray was born on April 7, 1940 in Wareham, MA. to Marie and Howard Maxim. He had two children, Lori Ann and Donna Maxim. He then met the love of his life, Cynthia Maxim, marrying in 1973. At this time he was gifted three stepchildren Robbie, Jamie and Bonnie. Years later they welcomed their daughter, Jodie. As a child, Ray spent a lot of time with his large family, which included 8 sisters and a brother. He attended Wareham schools and began working at a bowling alley before joining the Navy. It was discovered that he had Polio as a child which shortened his time in the Navy with a medical discharge. He also spent a few years volunteering for the Wareham Fire Department before starting his career in truck driving.
Ray's truck driving career started out locally then broadened from coast to coast. In the beginning, he did these drives straight from memory and without using a GPS. This was until he landed himself a position on the JP Noonan team, where he established a very successful career. He was an extremely hard worker, taking on the most challenging routes and gained the nickname "Tree Top” among the local drivers. In the late 90s, Ray was diagnosed with throat cancer bringing his career to a screeching halt. He underwent treatments and successfully went into remission.
During his leisure time, when he was not cleaning his pool, Ray enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He found joy in watching Jodie, in sports and travelling with her among the various teams. He would often refer to these times as the "good ole days" cherishing every moment. As a father, he was a source of endless support and encouragement, guiding his children with patience, kindness, and lots of love. He was a fanatic at keeping his grass cut and well-manicured. Throughout his life he exemplified unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and profession. He truly leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have met him and built a relationship with him.
Ray is preceded in death by his loving wife, Cynthia, who was waiting for him at Heaven's gates. He is survived by his daughters Lori Ann Thibodeaux-Simpson of Stoughton, MA., Donna Maxim of Marion, MA., and Jodie Maxim of Land O' Lakes, FL., his sisters Barbara DeMello of New Bern, NC., Joann Osborn of Milford, NH, and Dottie DeBlois of Wareham, MA., step children Robbie Van Etten of Hyannis, MA., Jamie Van Etten of Bourne, MA., and preceded in death Bonnie Whitney, grandchildren Samantha Segura and Anthony Thibodeaux , Matthew Whitney of Carver, MA, Lincoln Maxim of Land O’ Lakes, FL as well as extended family and countless friends. Our family has found comfort in knowing that Ray has now found peace and is reunited with his, wife, Cynthia.
Dad, we are beyond grateful for the time shared with him. We are so lucky to have had you and hope you rest in eternal peace. Please hug my mom so tight! Although your time with us was cut short, we know that we will all be reunited once again. Until then meet up with the fellas, talk about the good ole days and please know you are missed so much. Also know your love and kindness never went unnoticed. You are loved in ways that can never be measured, and you are already missed so much. Please continue to watch over us! We love you, always and forever.
