Jump into 2024 at the Onset New Year's Polar Plunge.
The Buzzard’s Bay Coalition’s Onset Bay Center and the Onset Bay Association will host this event on Monday, Jan. 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Spirited outfits are welcome.
Those interested can register by heading to the events tab on either organization’s Facebook Page.
Arrival, check in and donations will take place from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
After check in, participants will head upstairs to McFadden Hall to prepare for the plunge. There will be cubbies to store belongings.
Participants are encouraged to bring a full set of warm, dry clothes to change into after the plunge, a bag for wet clothes and towel. Water-friendly shoes are optional, but recommended as well as a waterproof camera to capture the moment.
The plunge will follow at 12 p.m. and will take place in multiple waves.
Onset Bay will be quite chilly, but the risk of hypothermia is very low, as participants will not be submerged in the water for very long. Onset Bay Center staff and volunteers will be present to lead the plunge and will ensure everyone is safe.
Participants are encouraged to go at their own pace. There is no pressure to fully submerge in the water or to stay in longer than desired.
An after party will be held in the Onset Bay Center from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. where participants can change and get warmed up.
There is no cost to participate. However, donations are encouraged. Money raised will go toward supporting both the host organizations.
Those who donate a minimum of $5 to the Buzzards Bay Coalition will become a member and receive their choice of a towel or tote bag — supplies are limited.
At the after party, prizes will be awarded to the top three individual fundraisers and the top fundraising team.
