Residents learn the language of Cape Verde

A class of students recently graduated from Kriolu language class provided by the Oak Grove Cape Verdean Cultural Center, Inc.
According to the Cultural Center, the community embraced the opportunity to learn the Cape Verdean language from state certified Kriolu instructor Wandra Harmsen.
Harmsen, being of Cape Verdean heritage herself, has extensive teaching experience in the New Bedford School system and volunteered her expertise to the Cultural Center. She gave students the opportunity to learn how to read and write the language as well as gaining confidence to be able to converse in class with one another.
According to the Cultural Center, the students are energized to learned historical facts about their Cape Verde Islands homeland, review popular music and get authentic recipes to try in the kitchen.
