Richard D. Kiernan, 96
Richard D. Kiernan, 96, of Wareham, died March 12, in the Kindred Transitional Care at Forestview. He was the husband of the late Grace E. (Ricker) Kiernan and the son of the late Felix H. and Florence (Delano) Kiernan.
He was born in Wareham and lived there all of his life. He graduated from Wareham high School in 1934. Mr. Kiernan served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He was a World War II veteran.
Mr. Kiernan worked as a foreman for A.D. Makepeace Co. for 60 years before retiring in 1994. He also worked for the Army Corps of Engineers.
Mr. Kiernan was a captain on the Wareham Fire Department and was a fire photographer.
He was a member of the Dude’s Crossing Steam Bath, the Cromesett Tribe Order of Redmen, and Little Harbor Golf Club. He enjoyed traveling to Cape Breton and Port Clyde, ME.
Survivors include his daughters, Faye Eddleston of East Wareham; Mary Ellen Kiernan of Wareham, and Sally Cattabriga and her husband, Mark, of Wareham; 4 granddaughters, Mary Eddleston, Karen Rasberry and her husband, Bill, Elizabeth Larner and her husband, John, and Amy Cattabriga; 5 great-grandchildren, Jonathan and his wife, Nina, Jeremy and Miya Bumpus, Grace and Myles Larner; several cousins. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Bryant Eddleston.
Services were held. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5 Manly St., W. Bridgewater, MA 02379, or to the Dick Melloni Youth Foundation, 40 Nathaniel's Dr. Rochester, MA 02770.
