Richard J. Shruhan, 83
Richard J. Shruhan, 83, of Wareham died May 8. He was the husband of Virginia (Cox) Shruhan and the son of the late Thomas and Mary J. (McBrien) Shruhan.
He was born in Boston and lived in Wareham for many years. Mr. Shruhan was a proud WWII Marine Corps veteran serving in the Caribbean and Mediterranean. He served from 1946 to 1949.
Mr. Shruhan worked as an arborist for the City of Boston Parks Department for many years before retiring.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Virginia (Cox) Shruhan; his children, Richard Shruhan, Jr. and his wife Vicky of Peabody, Robert Shruhan of Peabody, Ronald Shruhan and his wife Cindy of Peabody, Leslie Shruhan of Norway, ME, Thomas Hogan and his partner, Craig Morton of Pittsfield, NH, Kathleen Brown and her husband Robert of West Bridgewater, John Hogan and his wife Amy of Southbridge, Mark Hogan and his wife Susan of Nantucket, Patricia Collins and her husband Michael of Wareham, Michelle Tankerley and her husband Randolph of Stoughton, Donna Cirella and her husband David of Danville, NH, Timothy Shruhan of Wareham; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and lifelong friend, Mr. Pat Carter of South Boston. He was the father of the late Kevin and Brian Hogan and the brother of the late Robert and Thomas Shruhan and the late Rita Chapin.
His funeral will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 14, 2012 from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 82 High St., Wareham.
Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5 Manley St., W. Bridgewater, MA 02379.
