Rochester County Fair raises money with sports-themed dinner dance

Wearing his 1964 Minnesota Twins minor league jersey put Larry Petitjean in the mood to share some stories of his glory days.

"I made $500 a month, $12 a day for meal money," said Petitjean, who was invited to try out after high school. "I was the youngest guy on the team. I wasn't old enough to drink. That probably kept me out of trouble."

The former Midwestern league pitcher was one of several folks who showed up in sporting attire for the Rochester County Fair's "Team Spirit" dinner dance.

The annual fundraiser at Wareham's Redmen Hall brings in money for the summer event at Rochester Fairgrounds.

Tommy Gayoski, Jr. also wore his letterman's jacket from an undefeated football season at New Bedford High School in 1959.

How did he keep it in such good shape for the past 45 years? "Just put it in the closet and don't wear it," said Gayoski.

Others put on their favorite major league team jerseys for the event, which featured food from Matt's Blackboard and music by The Relics.
