Chris Coile, 80
Chris Coile, a trailblazing real estate entrepreneur, rancher, fly fisherman, conservationist and lifelong musician, passed away peacefully on July 31 from complications of Parkinson’s Disease at the age of 80.
In retirement, Chris and his wife Susan split their time between Wareham and Sanibel, Florida. In Wareham, they bought a house on the water on Shell Lane, where Susan could pursue her art projects and Chris could take friends and family out on his boat to fish for striped bass and bluefish.
Chris was well known locally for his rock and country music performance at venues like the Fan Club and the Wareham Elks Lodge. He played tunes by Elvis Presley, The Beatles and Johnny Cash, and donated his performances and CD sales to raise money for local causes, like Damien's Place Food Pantry, the Schwartz Center for Children, Wareham Family Planning and the Elks Lodge #1548's scholarship program.
Chris lived a life of adventure – riding horses and birthing calves on his 6,000-acre Montana cattle ranch, leading backcountry elk-hunting and whitewater rafting trips, and fly fishing across the globe, from Belize to Brazil to the Seychelles. He built multiple thriving real estate businesses in the Baltimore-Washington-Annapolis area, including Champion Realty, and mentored hundreds of real estate agents over a four-decade career.
Chris was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Susan; his parents, Peg Wallace and Russell Coile; and two brothers, Russell Coile Jr. and Ben Coile.
He is survived by two brothers, Jon Coile of Shady Side, MD, and Andrew Coile of San Jose, CA; his sister, Jennifer Coile of Hollister, CA; three nieces and nephews, Courtney Coile of Sudbury, MA, Zachary Coile of Washington, DC, and Simon Jane Coile Robrock of San Francisco, CA; and four grandnieces and grandnephews, Nathaniel Roman and Meredith Roman of Sudbury, MA, and Katherine Coile and Emily Coile of Washington, DC.
A private service will be held in Sanibel, Florida.
