Ronald Robinson, 76
Ronald L. Robinson, 76, of Wareham passed away Dec. 4 at Royal Cape Cod Nursing Home in Buzzards Bay. He was the husband of Cindy L. Robinson.
Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Charles and Rosamond Robinson. A longtime resident of Wareham, Mr. Robinson was raised in Boston and was also a resident of St. Croix for 10 years.
His educational path started at Simmons College in Boston, continued on to MIT in Cambridge, and concluded at Franconia College in New Hampshire with a bachelors of arts degree in human services. Mr. Robinson had a lifelong career focused in social and human services and community activism spanning more than 50 years. His titles have included executive director of the New Urban League of Boston, and social worker/counselor and program specialist for the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.
Known as the “Mayor of Oakdale,” Ronnie played a major role in several community committees and organizations including the Band of Angels and the Oakdale Betterment Association. He also was an active force in many city and state elections and worked tirelessly on several campaigns from presidential to local town elections.
To his family and friends, Ronnie will be remembered for his kind, giving and loving spirit. He was always available to be a source of knowledge and guidance and was a strong advocate and friend to those who needed it.
In his spare time, Ronnie enjoyed his days by the water and on the golf course. He participated in and set up multiple golf tournaments yearly and loved to spend spring and summer days fishing and crabbing. Ronnie will be truly missed by his family, friends and all that had the honor of knowing him.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Robin Gay of Boston, Lisa Peterson of Virginia, Rory Robinson of Athol, Michael Barboza of Florida, Travis Robinson of Florida, Kimari Robinson of Florida, Mary Robinson of Florida and Cherise Robinson Pires of Wareham; his brothers, Earl Robinson of Arizona, Charles “Troy” Robinson of Taunton and Lawrence Robinson of Brockton; 16 grandchildren, one grandchild expected in December, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, the late Richard Robinson.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham on Friday, Dec. 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Friends and relatives may gather beginning at 9 a.m.
