School district would receive nearly $1.5 million increase in proposed 2024 budget
The town’s largest dollar amount budget increase for 2024 would go to the school district. As previously reported, Wareham School District sought budget increases for new social worker salaries, as well as transportation and infrastructure needs. Its budget would rise from $32 to $33.5 million.
Town administrator Derek Sullivan presented the proposed 2024 budget to the Select Board Tuesday, April 11.
Voters will decide whether to approve the budget at Town Meeting on April 24.
The largest relative budget increase would go to public works, which is increasing almost 10 percent, from $2.93 to $3.22 million.
The general government budget would also increase around 8 percent, from $3.56 to $3.85 million. The general government budget comprises most of the town government’s expenses, including administration, Town Meeting, elections and town departments.
Overall, the town’s budget would increase almost 7 percent, from $73.5 million to $78.6 million. The budget increase corresponds with the estimated increase in revenue expected in 2024.
