School officials review bids for Decas Elementary renovation
Contractor bids have been opened for a $2.4 million renovation of Decas Elementary School.
Wareham Public Schools Business Administrator Michael MacMillan and employees from the Boston-based firms of ICON Architecture and Collier’s International are reviewing 14 bids submitted for work related to roofing, HVAC, plumbing and electrical.
ICON Architecture is the project architect while Collier’s International serves as the project manager.
At April’s Annual Town Meeting, voters approved spending the funds to replace a leaking roof and 45-year-old boilers. Seventy percent of that money will be refunded to the town through the Massachusetts School Building Authority.
MacMillan said the bids will be throughly vetted before any decisions are made.
Greenwood Industries of Worcester submitted the lowest for roofing, offering to do the work for $297,000. The low bid for HVAC was $296,800 from Devens-based N.B. Kenney Company, Inc. The low plumbing bid was 75,000, submitted by Araujo Bros. Plumbing , Inc. Hub Electric, Inc. of Woburn bid $36,500 for electrical work.
MacMillian said the project is seeking bids for general contractors. He noted those bids will be opened on Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. in the Multi-Service Center.
