Selectmen continue Senior Citizen Tax Work-off
The Board of Selectmen Tuesday voted to continue the Senior Citizen Tax Work-off program.
The program allows full-time Wareham residents and homeowners who are at least 60 years old to work in a town department at a rate of $7.50 per hour, earning up to a $750 reduction in real estate taxes. The program is overseen by the Council on Aging.
In other business:
The Selectmen approved an application for a one-day alcoholic beverage license permit for the First Congregational Church. The church is holding a fashion and comedy show fundraiser on Feb. 13 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Town Adminstrator Mark Andrews reported on efforts to gain state permission for an additional eight liquor licenses in town.
The Selectmen voted to allow Andrews to do a request for proposal for legal services. Chairman Bruce Sauvageau said he believes there is a very competitive environment for legal services now due to the state of the economy, and he wants to get the best services for the least amount of money.
