Selectmen give emotional proclamation for seven-year-old girl battling leukemia
Board of Selectmen meetings are usually reserved for town business and politics, but on Tuesday night it was an emotional proclamation for a seven-year-old Wareham girl who is battling cancer that had the most impact.
Hailey Jean Pease is fighting for her life after being diagnosed with Acute T-Cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia. She is currently home in Wareham after being treated at Children's Hospital Boston since April.
Her family gathered in the Selectmen's meeting room at the Multi-service Center to hear the Selectmen honor Hailey for her bravery. The family was given a plaque and balloons and flowers, which were donated. Hailey herself wasn't feeling well and could not attend.
The Gleason Family YMCA is sponsoring a bake sale for Hailey in the YMCA lobby on Friday, July 29 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, July 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sign-up sheets are available in the YMCA lobby for baked goods and other donations. Drop off baked goods Friday morning at the YMCA. For more information, call Donna Maynard at 508-295-9622, extension 31 or e-mail dmaynard@ymcasouthcoast.org.
The board also honored Vasco R.A. Pires with a proclamation on Tuesday. Pires was honored for his commitment to the Cape Verdean community.
