Members of the Wareham Friends of the Library were honored at Tuesday's Board of Selectmen meeting for their years of efforts in raising money, providing resources, and supporting children's summer reading.

Selectman Judy Whiteside read a proclamation signed on behalf of the Board.

“The work of the Friends assists in providing opportunities for all to engage in the joy of life-long learning, connecting to thoughts and ideas of others in ages past to present, whereas the Friends understand the critical performance of well funded libraries, and advocate to assure that our library gets the resources it needs," Whiteside read. "The gift of their time and commitment to the library sets and example for all in how volunteerism leads to positive civic engagement and the betterment of our community."

The proclamation also declared Oct. 18 – Oct. 24 as Friends of the Library week in town.

Chairman Patrick Tropeano also complimented their efforts.

“Due to the circumstances of the town, the library has taken a big hit over the course of time," Tropeano said. "[A] thanks to groups like this who have just done an amazing job to take care of such an important resource for all of us.”
