Selectmen take a trip to Onset

Jul 29, 2015

It's summertime and all the big events in town are happening in Onset, including Tuesday's Selectmen meeting.

In a change conceived by Selectman Patrick Tropeano, the board met Tuesday night at Salerno's Function Hall at 196 Onset Ave. Tuesday, as opposed to the normal meeting place at the town Multi-Service Center.

This allowed a greater opportunity for people from Onset to voice their comments and concerns to Selectmen. And that they did, talking about topics such as beautification efforts, trash barrels in Onset Village, parking regulations, and street sweeping.

Town Administrator Derek Sullivan said the town paid a private company, using parking kiosk funds, to come in and sweep the streets in Onset. He asked residents to notify him if any streets were missed, or needed to be swept again, due to to the extreme amount of sand that had to be used this winter.

In other Onset news, Sullivan announced that Comcast would be coming into town to connect the Spinney Library to the Internet.

All Selectmen seemed pleased with the change of scenery for the meeting.

"This is a really pleasant venue to hold a meeting in," said Selectman Judith Whiteside.

"It just seems like sometimes there is a disconnect with people from different areas [of town]," Tropeano said. "Each one of us are nothing but citizens of this town. It's good when you can come and sit with the community and with people. I think this is terrific, and something we should do on a regular basis."
